Apple’s Phil Schiller Steps Down from Running App Store, Product Events

Mark Gurman, writing for Bloomberg again a week later:

Ternus and services chief Eddy Cue want to make even more money from the App Store and figure out ways to raise margins and squeeze additional recurring revenue from the platform. Schiller, on the other hand, seems to believe that such moves will only further irk developers and governments.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, in an Epic v. Apple decision filed on April 30, 2025:

Internally, Phillip Schiller had advocated that Apple comply with the Injunction, but Tim Cook ignored Schiller and instead allowed Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri and his finance team to convince him otherwise.

Phil did an exceptional job, running Marketing and Events with a steady and expert hand. Every interview with him has been a masterclass in public relations. I hope he enjoys spending more time with his Porches family, he’s certainly earned it.
